Experimental Filmmaker/Film Artist Orlagh Heverin is based in County Mayo, Ireland. Her body of work includes The Secret Tree (Writer/Director/Producer. Short Experimental Poetry Film. 2026), Deoch Dance (Writer/Director/Producer. Short film. 2021), Secret Repetition (Writer. Short film. 2015), Losing Memories (Writer/Director. Short film. RTÉ/Galway Film Centre Short Script Award. 2008) and Memories (Writer/Director/Editor. Short film.1996).
Orlagh’s work has been screened at numerous film festivals and received a number of awards.
The Secret Tree:
2025 saw Orlagh shoot The Secret Tree in Castlebar, Co. Mayo (Ireland). The Secret Tree is an experimental Poetry Film that centres round female sexual trauma. 2026 sees Heverin in post-production preparing the film for entry into film festivals.
Deoch Dance:
Award for Poetic Expression -15th International DiViPassion Short Film Festival (Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland). A collaboration between the Athis-Mons (France) based DiViPassion film association and Ballina Fringe Festival (October 12th 2024). Best University Film Austin Revolution Film Festival, Texas, USA (February 9th 2023). Best Picture Short Movies Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Madrid, Spain (FICIMAD) (June 9th 2022). Best Cinematography Florida Leaders Opening Worlds (FLOW) (May 2022). Best International Experimental Short Film (May 2022) Austin International Art Festival. Best Experimental Film at the Miami Indie Film Awards (6th edition March 2022), and Best Experimental Film at Boston Independent Film Award (February 2022), Deoch Dance was part of Plan C: Whereabouts? exhibition (curated by Ruby Wallis and Michaële Cutaya, 2021) and The Mayo Artist Show (curated by Eamonn Maxwell. 2021/2022).
Losing Memories:
Losing Memories won the Jury’s prize at the Earwig Arts Festival (2010. Tuam), and the Best Irish production at the International Film Festival Ireland (Clonmel. 2010). Losing Memories was broadcast on RTÉ (Irish national broadcaster. 2011) and was part of the Made of Mayo art exhibition (curated by Patrick T.Murphy. 2018).
Orlagh’s practice is concerned with female sexual trauma, addiction and recovery, memory/loss of memory/traumatic memories and the passage of time. Heverin makes use of strong visual story telling which focuses on the personal but resonates on a universal level. She uses the medium of film to paint her vision through images. Heverin completed a Master of Arts in Creative Practice at Atlantic Technological University, Galway in 2021.
